Rowan R. Blackmon, RCT

Founder, RowanTree Psychotherapy / Resident Counselling Therapist

Rowan Blackmon (MA, RCT, LCPC) believes a therapist’s job is to guide the patient as they learn to change the behaviours and thinking styles that may have once been helpful but are now getting in their way. Most importantly, she believes it is a therapist’s job to assist their patients in learning the skills necessary to function independent of their therapist, allowing them to eventually leave therapy instead of having weekly sessions for the rest of their lives.

Her therapeutic specialties are in depression and anxiety disorders, particularly Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity disorders. She is trained to work with a wide range of psychological issues, including substance abuse and personality disorders, across all demographics and ages. Her therapeutic style utilizes an eclectic array of Psychodynamic, Attachment theory-based, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic informed, Experiential Dynamic, biofeedback, Cognitive Behavioural, Affect-focused and many other modalities and orientations, allowing her to shift her approach to what will fit the patient best. It is her firm belief that because no two patients are alike, therapy should be tailored to each patient to find the tools that will work for you.

She also has training and extensive experience working with children, teens and adults, both in individual and family therapy and enjoys working with couples.

Her education includes the University of Maryland at College Park, MD, and the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC, culminating in a Masters of Clinical Psychology degree in 2014. Her training has included extensive continuing education (both before and since then) and attendance at multi-day conferences across the United States, featuring speakers and teachers from around the world addressing a variety of topics, from the latest in psychotropic medications to new therapeutic approaches.
